The Powerful Owl and the Rufous Owl co-exist in one place only- the Mackay Region. To educate and celebrate these owls a large owl’s head was created. Owl ecology and arts workshops at Calen District State College by Kris Martin (fibre arts/ installation), Donna Maree Robinson (mandala arts) Patricia Julien (Mackay Conservation Group) led into the creation of the giant owl head and projected works. The Owl Head installation was finished by a team of volunteers and then installed at both Happy Daze festival and Mackay Festival of the Arts. The project was fully funded through Mackay Regional Council’s RADF Green Arts programme.
